vacay

Next month I am taking TWO WHOLE WEEKS off IN A ROW. I am very excited. I don't remember the last time I did that. Actually, the last time I had that much time off at once was after Soph was born. Soph is turning seven next week. That's a long time to go without a vacation.

Sophie and I will be sticking close to home most of the time, maybe taking a couple day trips – to the train museum in Sacramento (Amtrak runs basically from my house to the museum) and/or jaunts into the city for Sephora sniffing and cable car riding – or working on our swimming and bike riding, but basically just hanging out. I think we both need that after our over-scheduled summer.

We do have three days of actual out-of-town, set plans. We're renting a wee green house in Guerneville with some good playgroup friends. It'll be so good to just get the hell out of Dodge for a bit. And I love Guerneville. I'll drag everyone to my old haunts ("And this is where I caught the bus to school…and that's the library, I remember when it was built…and that's the drugstore where I bought cherry Jolly Rancher sticks…and that's the tennis court I canoed through when it flooded in '84…"). Everyone will doubtless be thrilled with my hikes down memory lane, which are sure to be entertaining. For me, anyway. I'm hoping some friends (such as you)  can come up for a day trip, to bbq and swim in the river and generally frolic like woodland sprites. The kids can do the frolicking. We can drink beer on the deck and supervise.
